Baseball & Softball Situation Drills

Situational drills teach players to read the game state, not just execute a mechanic in isolation.

Core situations to drill

  • Runner on first, ground ball: practice the force-out decision at second vs. first
  • Cutoff and relay: outfield-to-infield throws with a runner trying to advance two bases
  • Bunt defense: corners crash, middle infielders cover, pitcher fields and reads the lead runner
  • Rundowns: minimize throws, run the runner toward the tag

Run these live at half-speed before adding full speed - the read matters more than the footwork at first.
